There's no lag due to it being fullscreen. You can have 1,5, however many you want eq instances all full screened and just alt+tab between them. This means that you never have to use that alt+enter crap to use your full screen.
(macs did this 'recently', linux did this 'ages ago'). you can completely fullscreen apps via the os. The window manager was just better than windows. I learned a lot about linux while I was using wine to play games on it, and it was all great. I never did anything malicious through it (I know in like early 2000's there was some linux only malicous crap, but now it's all mainstream anyways so who cares?). I used wine within linux to play eq for years.
